Guinea Fowl Keets
Guinea fowl are hardy, alert, free-ranging birds best known for their natural pest control and built-in alarm system. They are excellent for farms, homesteads, yards, and acreage where they can help patrol for ticks, bugs, and small pests while adding a unique, old-fashioned farm charm.
Guineas are not cuddly lap birds like some chickens. They are loud, active, independent, and happiest when allowed to roam. Once established, they can become one of the most useful birds on the homestead.
Male Guinea
The male guinea, called a cock, is protective, watchful, and active. Guinea males are usually harder to identify when young, but mature males tend to have larger wattles and a more upright, alert posture.
Female Guinea
The female guinea, called a hen, is known for her distinct two-syllable call that often sounds like “buck-wheat.” Guinea hens lay small, thick-shelled, speckled eggs that are rich and flavorful.
Keets
Guinea keets are the baby guineas. They are tiny, quick, and need a warm, dry brooder with extra care during their first few weeks. Once grown and properly settled, guineas are hardy, low-maintenance birds that thrive outdoors.
Eggs
Guinea eggs are smaller than chicken eggs, with thick shells and beautiful speckled coloring. They are seasonal layers and are often prized for their rich flavor and unique appearance.
